How to prepare your product images.

When you add a product to Buylink, you load an image of the product at the same time. It's easier than it sounds! You can:

1. Use a digital camera to photograph your products.
2. Scan the images yourself ( If not already on your computer ).
3. Have a desktop publisher ( Kinko's, etc. ) scan them for you.
4. Have the company who prints your catalog prepare the images for you.

Scanner hints

Scan individual product photos at a minimum size of 300 x 300. There are many types of each image format, but we support common versions with extentions of: JPG, BMP, PS, EPS, TGA, PNG, TIFF, and GIF. We recommend that you use medium compression JPEG with dimensions of 600x600, but are free to upload higher quality images. ( If you already have image files on your computer, skip to # 2 ).

1. Scan your image in high quality photography mode, and save the raw image on your hard-disk. The image file may be very large, but thats ok.

2. Rescale the image to the dimension that expresses all the details of your product.

3. Apply brightness and contrast or other retouching if needed.

4. Save your touched up image onto your disk. Save it in JPEG format to shorten your upload time. Make sure that your compressed JPEG file has not lost any vital details.

5. For a complete tutorial on getting the best from your scanner, see Sullivan's Scanning Tips.

Having a desktop publisher do the scanning

Your local desktop publisher can scan images from your photographs or catalog. The cost is usually about $10 per scan. The desktop publisher can give you the finished scans on disk, or email them to you when complete.

If you elect to have a desktop publishing house scan your photos, please print this page ( under "file" in your browser ) for your desktop publisher to read the specifications above. Make sure that the files are titled as the correct product.

Your catalog printer

It is likely that the company who prints your catalog has all the product images you need - already scanned. It's easy for them to resave their existing image files to fit the size and JPEG format above. They will follow the same guidelines as "Desktop Publishers" above.

You're ready to go!

Once you've saved your product images on your computer you can start loading them onto Buylink.com:
